"What Structure Is and That Structure Is."

I will trace the development of the notion of structure in mathematics with the aim of distinguishing between definitions of what structure is from the more robust ontological claim that structure is. To this end, I will investigate the differences between the algebraic notion of structure and the set-theoretic. These considerations will then be used to inform both the ante rem/in re debate in philosophy of mathematics and the structural realism debate in philosophy of science.
