Several UCI science faculty are particularly interested in issues surrounding the philosophy of mind and brain. Professor Donald Hoffman, an expert in visual perception, regularly team-teaches seminars with LPS faculty. Professors James McGaugh and Norman Weinberger are members of the Center for Neurobiology of Learning and Memory, a multi-disciplinary research institutes that fosters and supports collaborative research on the brain processes underlying learning and memory.
In addition, the Department of LPS has a cooperative research program in the philosophy of science with UCSD, in which Professors Paul and Patricia Churchland are especially active. Graduate students interested in the philosophy of mind, neuroscience, cognitive science and perception are encouraged to participate in the various colloquia, seminars and research projects of this joint program.
