Logic & Philosophy of Science

Course Description

Course:  LPS/Phil 29
Name:  Critical Reasoning
Description:  This is the first course in the basic logic sequence (continuing with an "Introduction to Symbolic Logic" and an "Introduction to Inductive Logic") that satisfies the mathematics/symbolic systems requirement. It covers the fundamentals of both symbolic logic (by discussing, among other things, the truth-table and the truth-tree methods for propositional logic) and inductive logic (by introducing the basic concepts of the probability calculus). As a bonus, we will discuss ways in which this course can be used in preparation for the LSAT and other standardized tests.
