| Name: | History of Analytic |
| Description: |
Studying original sources the course investigates (a)how logical
empiricists' philosophy emerged from an epistemological analysis of
the revolutionary changes in physics and mathematics after 1900,(b)
what constituted the movements' corporate identity despite deep
thematical rifts in the 1920s, and (c)how the Encyclopedia project
became the bridge to America in the late 1930s. And finally, discussion
of the Vienna Circle for present-day philosophy of science. The
Vienna Circle and the logical empiricist movement constitute one of
the historical roots of present-day analytic philosophy. The Circle's
European history and specific paths along which interaction with
American philosophers began are not so commonly known.
