| Course: | SS 236;Phil 246 |
| Name: | Phil of Logic |
| Description: | This course will examine the concept of extensionality, one of
the most important notions in modern analytic philosophy. It will
seek to determine what it is and why it is held by its exponents
(for example, Frege and Quine) to be such an important desideratum
of philosophical adequacy. Because this notion is taken for granted,
and, in Peirce's words, often operates underground as an unclearly defined
"leading principle" in philosophical theories, what's up? and why? are not
easy questions to answer.
