Logic & Philosophy of Science

Course Description

Course:  LPS 241Q; Phil 241Q
Name:  Topics in the Foundations of Relativistic Quantum Mechanics and Quantum Field Theory
Description:  We will consider a number of related topics concerning the foundations of relativistic quantum mechanics (RQM) and quantum field theory (RQFT), including:  (1) particle non-localizability in RQM; (2) EPR and Bell type correlations in RQFT; (3) the status of Reichenbach's "common cause principle" in RQFT; and (4) relativity theory and the quantum "measurement problem".  The seminar will be co-led by Miklòs Rèdei who is currently visiting LPS from Budapest.

It will be expected that participants are familiar with the basic mathematical formalism of (ordinary) quantum mechanics and special relativity. But prior study of RQM or RQFT will not be assumed.

For further information and a syllabus, see the seminar webpage.
