Name:  Topics in Philosophy of Language
Description:  This seminar will be devoted to the following: (i) The Frege-Hilbert debate on the status of axioms and definitions, and Frege's views on metalogic (ii) Recent research in formal semantics of natural language: concerned with the relationship of donkey anaphora, indefinites, adverbs of quantification and bound variables. (iii) Additional topics depending upon time and interest to include the Gricean program of "Logic and Conversation"; semantic competence and word meaning.
