| Course: | LPS/Phil 221 |
| Name: | Epistemology of Science |
| Description: |
This course provides
an introduction to the epistemology of science. We will be
particularly interested in the epistemology of physics. What, for
example, is the epistemic value of our best physical theories when we
know that they are, strickly speaking, false? Is
there some sense in which they might be taken to be approximately
true? If so, how? Readings will include Peirce, Duhem,
Quine, Putnam and texts concerning particular physical theories.
